Event Details

The roots Duluth’s Fitger Brewing Company go back to 1881, when Mike Fink established the Lake Superior Brewery along Superior Street at 5th Avenue East. August Fitger and Percy Anneke took over in 1885 and grew the brewery into the largest manufacturer of beer in the Lake Superior region, and when it closed in 1972 it was the longest-lived manufacturing concern at the Head of the Lakes. Discover how Fitger’s survived stiff competition, the Temperance movement, Prohibition, and two world wars only to succumb as regional breweries disappeared in the 1960s and 70s. But the facility survived to incubate Minnesota’s craft-brewing revolution as the first home of Lake Superior Brewing Co., the state’s first craft brewery. Get your history where it was made: The event takes place inside the historic Fitger Brewery stockhouse! Free and open to the public—and plenty of local craft beer on hand!

    Hi,
I’m from Delmenhorst, a town in northern Germany, where August Fitger has come from. I’m interested in local brewery history. In 1871 August Fitger went first to his sister Elfrieda Krieger who lived in Kiel/Wisconsin. August spent his apprenticeship in a small Wisconsin brewery. Do the authors know the name of the brewery? It could be the Gutheil Bros. Brewery of Schleswig/Kiel because there was a relation between the Krieger family and the Gutheil family.
Moreover I’m interested in this book, do you possibly ship it?
    Best regards from Germany
