As concerned parents and community members, we are partnering with Junkyard Brewery to ensure students of Moorhead Area Public Schools and their families aren’t weighed down by school lunch debt. Join us for a fundraiser featuring PB&J sandwiches and one of Junkyard Brewing Company’s peanut butter inspired brews.
When: Saturday, April 28th, 12:00 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Junkyard Brewing Company, 1416 1st Ave North, Moorhead
Why:
A school’s job is to educate its students, and hungry kids can’t focus on learning. Nearly 36% of students in Moorhead Area Public Schools are eligible for free or reduced-price meals, but this program doesn’t fill the gaps when families’ financial situations change. Sometimes families are unable to pay for meals — and even if they eventually qualify for free or reduced-price lunches, they need help covering negative meal account balances created during that gap.
Moorhead Public Schools (MPS) have consistently chosen to prioritize school lunches. Rather than using methods that hurt kids and impair relationships with families, MPS practices a strict “no shaming” policy when it comes to unpaid student lunches.
That’s why we’ve partnered with Junkyard Brewing Company to thank MPS for putting education over money, for not piling stress on already struggling families, and for prioritizing relationship-building. This fundraiser is our way of acknowledging the amazing job MPS is doing for our kids and our community–and showing up with our support.
How to participate:
· Show up at noon, bring your friends, neighbors, and wallet.
· Enjoy tasty PB&J sandwiches: we think everyone should eat, regardless of the cash in their pocket, so lunch is a free-will donation.
· Sip some well-paired beers: We recommend one of Junkyard’s peanut butter inspired brews- a portion of all proceeds will be donated.
· Buy raffle tickets for chances to win wonderful prizes.
· Play bingo for a chances to win wonderful prizes.
· Play games, visit with your neighbors, and show support for a great cause–our kids!
