Event Details

No experience is needed for this 3 hour workshop where you will learn the basics about a sewing machine and use those new skills to make a shop apron from a pair of jeans. We will start by learning how to thread the machine including filling the bobbin. Then we will practice sewing by making a simple pillow case. We will then make the Shop Apron. You will learn how to plan the layout and sew a hem.

The Tool Library will supply the sewing machines and the instructor will provide; thread, scissors, pins and needles for machines and fabric for pillowcases.

What to bring:

A pair of jeans that you will not wear again. If you don’t have a worn out pair of jeans a thrift store is a great place to find inexpensive jeans. It would be best if they come close to fitting your waist, a little too big or too small is ok, you will be adding ties to the waistband.

If you would prefer to bring your own machine, please make a note on your registration and the instructor will contact you before the class. Your machine must be in working condition and be able to sew a straight stitch and a zig-zag.

Enthusiasm to learn or relearn how to sew

About the Instructor:

Margo Bergene will be teaching this class. Margo has been sewing for about 45 years, so she has “a little experience”. In the past she taught sewing to students from age 10 – 60. These classes included many quilting classes as well as some basic beginner sewing classes. Margo claims that there are very few crafts she has not tried, including making candles & jewelry, dyeing fabric, upholstery and mosaic tiling. She also does the basic repairs needed in her home. Margo learned woodworking from her father and has now inherited his tools, with hopes to someday know how to use them all.
