About this Event
Join us for a virtual sensory event, hosted by Witch Hunt Fargo, with special guests Noreen Thomas of Doubting Thomas Farms and Alyssa Nichols of Drekker Brewing Co.
Tickets are donation based (suggested $15). All are welcome to attend.
Each ticket includes:
- Sensory kit of different grains used in beer
- Two 16oz cans of beer donated by Drekker Brewing Co.
- One package of beer bread mix from Doubting Thomas Farms
- Zoom invitation to our virtual gathering with two guest speakers
- Networking with other local beer lovers
- A warm, fuzzy feeling knowing your donation went to TWO good causes
HOW TO ATTEND:
- Tickets must be purchased via Eventbrite
- Sensory and beer bread kits need to be picked up at Drekker Brewing Co. between Thursday, February 11th and Monday, February 15th during their normal business hours
- Log in on February 15th at 7pm. Zoom invitation will be included with each kit, and sent via the email you use for Eventbrite.
During our virtual gathering, Noreen will tell us about the different brewing grains she grows on her farm. Alyssa will discuss which grains are used for different styles of beer. Together, we will go over our sensory kits, ask questions, and learn from each other.
Now for the fun part – each ticket comes with a package of beer bread mix, courtesy of Doubting Thomas Farms. Just add beer and butter to the mix (substitute butter with coconut oil to keep it vegan). Participants are encouraged to make their beer bread prior to the virtual gathering for snacking, or they can enjoy their beer bread at a different time.
And of course…we’ll drink beer! We’ll share what we’re sipping on, and talk about what beers we’d like to see more of in our community.
**Proceeds will go to Noreen’s non-profit, The Gifted Learning Project, and Witch Hunt**
ABOUT NOREEN: Noreen Thomas and her family live on their 6th-generation 1200-acre farm, which has been in continuous operation since 1878 along the Buffalo River near Moorhead, MN. Noreen went to NDSU for a degree in food nutrition, microbiology and chemistry. She has always been interested in the intersection of nutrient dense foods, agriculture, and the environment. The Thomas’s supply breweries with grains from their farm such as rolled oats, malted oats, malted barley, and sprouted wheat.
NOREEN’S NON PROFIT: The Gifted Learning Project is a grassroots, nonprofit organization started and operated by people with disabilities, and those who live and work with people with disabilities. They are dedicated to enriching the lives of those with learning challenges. The Gifted Learning Project sponsors kids from the homeless shelter to garden, fish, and learn about nature. They offer their farm land, water, and expertise at no charge for the families.
ABOUT ALYSSA: Alyssa grew up in Fargo, ND and got into the industry when she moved to Duluth in 2017 and started volunteering in the brewery at Thirsty Pagan. It quickly turned into her full time job. She was there for about a year when she heard about Drekker expanding, so she reached out to the guys to see if they were looking for another Brewer to add to the team. When she was home over Christmas, they offered her the job. She’s been making stellar beers at Drekker for nearly 3 years now. “Moving home for this job has been one of the best decisions that I’ve made!”
ABOUT WITCH HUNT: Witch Hunt is a 501c3 non-profit located in the Twin Cities and Fargo/Moorhead. We create beer education opportunities for all skill levels and showcase our collective talents through collaboration brews. We advocate for marginalized genders & queer folx in every department of the craft brewing industry. We connect individuals in order to foster professional development.
