All Pints North 2021

Craft brewers and fans will flock to Bayfront Festival Park on July 31 to celebrate Minnesota-made brews.

MINNESOTA: On Saturday, July 31, 2021, more than 100 MN craft breweries and brewpubs will gather at Bayfront Festival Park in Duluth to share their best summer beers and a few surprises with craft beer fans from around the region. Attendees to this fest can expect unlimited samples of MN craft beer, seltzer, cider, and NA options, along with food trucks, local shops, live music, and beautiful views of Lake Superior.

The festival is put on by the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild, a nonprofit organization for Minnesota’s craft breweries and brewpubs. “In-person events strengthen that sense of community that is so crucial to the craft beer industry; attendees really get to connect with the people who are making their favorite local brews. Last year we missed those experiences,” said Guild Executive Director Lauren Bennett McGinty.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of All Pints North 2020, as well as the Guild’s other major events: The Brewed in Minnesota exhibit at the MN State Fair and the Autumn Brew Review beer festival in the fall. “Fests aren’t just a fun celebration. They’re also really important business opportunities,” said Bennett McGinty. “At a festival like APN, new and smaller breweries have an opportunity to make a real splash with future customers, and bigger brands get to connect on a more personal level with their fans.”

There will be some changes to APN this year to help mitigate risk related to COVID. One such change: APN tickets will be released in stages, with only 1,000 tickets going on sale at a time to avoid a potential oversell of the event. As a ticket stage sells out, fans will be able to join a waitlist and be notified once another round of tickets is released. “We want to be prepared if event capacity limits are reduced this summer. But we’re pretty confident that won’t happen. Minnesotans are getting vaccinated and restrictions are lifting. Now that we can gather safely, Minnesota’s breweries and brewpubs are eager to celebrate MN craft beer with the fans that kept them afloat through the last year.”

All Pints North tickets will go on sale on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. Tickets, participating breweries, and other event details can be found online at www.MNCraftBrew.org/APN

Summit Brewing Oatmeal Stout

ST. PAUL, Minn. – (Feb. 22, 2021) – Since its release in 2004, Summit Oatmeal Stout has been a fan favorite. So much so, that for years fans have asked, even begged, for the beer to be available in packaging. Now, after 17 years of only being offered on nitro draught, Summit Brewing Co. is adding to Oatmeal Stout’s portfolio and releasing the beer in bottles!
Inspired by stouts from the United Kingdom, Summit Oatmeal Stout is a beautifully balanced dark beer. Rich in flavors of coffee, caramel and chocolate it has a roasted sweetness in every sip. Low in bitterness, it finishes full and smooth. From its inception, Summit Brewing has served this recipe on nitro draught, which adds a velvety creaminess to the brew. The bottled version, however, will offer a wonderfully different experience with notes of hazelnut instead of coffee and a sharper, crisper finish.
“I’ve wanted for years to have a packaged stout in our portfolio. It’s a great style overall. Oatmeal Stout is a great beer on draught, but we really thought we could do it justice by putting it into glass and showcasing some of the differences that the packaged CO2 route provides from the nitro/mixed gas draught form,” head brewer Damian McConn said. “Oatmeal Stouts tend to not be as acidic as Irish Stouts, so on or off a nitro tap this beer will still retain a sweetness and full body. The elevated carbon dioxide levels for the bottled version adds a sharpness to the aromas, really bringing forth the hazelnut notes and even added a hint of florals. It’s a bit fuller, a bit sharper, but just as delicious.”
Summit Oatmeal Stout will be available in 12-packs of 12oz bottles beginning in March. Those seeking the nitro component can still find it on draught anywhere Oatmeal Stout is poured. Find Summit products near you using our online beer finder: https://www.summitbrewing.com/beer-finder/

Bauhaus Brew Labs Bolero Hard Seltzer

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA (December 11, 2020) — After a year of success with its BOLO line of hard seltzers, Bauhaus Brew Labs is pushing the seltzer category forward with the launch of BOLERO, a hard seltzer made with real cold-brewed tea and real fruit. The first flavor to hit the market will be BOLERO Peach Tea-Infused Hard Seltzer.

It’s no secret that hard seltzer continues to experience an epic boom. According to Nielsen data, off-premise sales of hard seltzer in the US quadrupled on a year-over-year basis in 2020, further propelled by the global pandemic, which has led to more at-home consumption.

What truly sets BOLERO apart from other hard seltzers is the infusion of real cold-brewed tea and real fruit. Bauhaus worked with an East-Coast-based tea supplier to develop a custom tea and fruit blend that the brewery cold brews in-house before the tea is expertly blended with a custom hard seltzer base. The result is a deliciously fresh take on hard seltzer.

“Early this year, we began taking a closer look at how we could push hard seltzer a little further in terms of complexity and flavor profile,” explains Bauhaus President Matt Schwandt. “We had a separate concept in mind for a line of tea-based beverages, and then Nick [Rancone of Revival] suggested that we develop a peach tea hard seltzer. But instead of just using flavor extracts, we wanted to really elevate BOLERO by using real tea and real fruit – the way we would add those flavors to beer.” According to Schwandt, the tea and fruit blend used in BOLERO Peach includes “black and green teas, rooibos, matcha, peach, lemon, lime, and papaya.”

To further elevate the excitement surrounding the launch, Bauhaus is partnering with longtime partner Revival on BOLERO’s first flavor. Similar to the exclusive beer Bauhaus Brew Labs previously produced in collaboration with Revival (Slawhammer Kentucky Common), BOLERO Peach Tea-Infused Hard Seltzer was specifically designed to pair with the deep and spicy flavors of Revival’s fried chicken and other Southern-inspired offerings.

Consumers can expect to find BOLERO Peach Tea-Infused Hard Seltzer in 4-packs of 16 oz tallboys at liquor stores and at Revival’s Minneapolis and St. Paul locations starting the week of Monday, December 14th. BOLERO clocks in at 5% ABV; additional nutritional details are forthcoming.

Good Morning from Bauhaus!

Hope your week is going well. Wanted to give you a quick update from the Haus- we recently expanded our non-alcoholic offering with the release of “Nah” Non-Alcoholic Amber and there’s no better time like the present to be expanding our NA options.

If you’re in the beer industry or report on it, you’re well aware that off-premise alcohol sales skyrocketed in March.  This past Spring, Nielsen reported that alcohol sales in the U.S. rose 55% and online sales rose 243% compared with that same week in March the year before.  As the pandemic has continued, there has actually been an increase in non-alcoholic beer sales as well.  As quoted from a Forbes article this past week, “According to Nielsen, nonalcoholic beer sales went up 44% in the U.S. in May compared to last year. This change may indicate that the initial rise in alcohol consumption during the outbreak was temporary, and some people are now using nonalcoholic beverages to control their drinking at home.”

As everyone continues to adjust to the new world and strike a balance between health and indulgence, Bauhaus is thrilled to offer a non-boozy option to those who still want to satiate that craving for a crisp beer, without the negative side effects of alcohol.  Whether it’s a lifestyle choice or you simply want to take the weekend off, we want people to know that it’s ok to say “Nah”.

“Nah” Amber will live alongside our “Nah” Helles Lager as a seasonal non-alcoholic release, with additional seasonal releases on the slate for 2021. Pouring a deep garnet color with a creamy white head, “Nah” Amber imparts a smorgasbord of caramel, Munich, and biscuit malts to create a smooth body balanced by a mild hop bitterness that brings a little brightness to each sip.  For those who aren’t familiar with “Nah” Helles, this style is a refreshing non-alcoholic version of a true-to-style Münich Helles brewed with 100% German-grown malt and hops. “Nah” Helles features a bready malt flavor and a mild hoppiness with notes of ripe melon and bright berry.

Both “Nah” varieties are available on draft at the taproom and 6-packs can be purchased both at Bauhaus and at liquor stores across the metro.  Additionally, we are now shipping both styles of “Nah” nationwide!  6-packs of “Nah” can be purchased online here: https://bauhausbrewlabs.square.site

August 17, 2020 – Minneapolis, Minn. – Lift Bridge Brewing Company, Modist Brewing, Dual Citizen Brewing Company and Tattersall Distilling have been brought together by Twin Cities-based food upcycler, NETZRO to form the Twin Cities Spent Grain Co-op. Together, the group announced today the launch of a direct-to-consumer spent grain flour blend, which features rescued and restored byproduct left behind from the brewing and distilling process. The upcycled grain forms a mix of rye and wheat with traces of barley that are blended with locally milled organic whole wheat flour from Baker’s Field Flour & Bread in a 20:80 ratio.

“Lift Bridge Brewing Co has always looked to reduce waste in the brewing process — and spent grain is one of the largest waste streams,” says Dan Schwarz, co-founder and CEO of Lift Bridge Brewing Co. “Normally it goes to local farmers as a supplement for their cattle feed, but working with NETZRO will improve the process by reducing residual water waste and minimizing the transportation of heavy spent grain. Not to mention the resulting flour is incredible. I made pancakes from the spent grain flour and they may be the best I have had.”

NETZRO’s proprietary technology is used to upcycle spent grains. As the sugar is removed during the brewing process, a stronger ratio of protein and fiber to sugar is left behind, making them better for consumers as well as better for the environment. The flour blend can be substituted in the same quantities as traditional flour and imparts a slightly fermented flavor profile reminiscent of sourdough, lending itself to both sweet and savory items.

“NETZRO works hard at making sure products in the food supply chain are not underutilized. At Baker’s Field we mill the brewers spent grain into flour and mix it with our whole grain flour, doing our part to participate in the upcycled food movement,” says Wes Gardner, head miller and baker at Bakersfield Flour & Bread. “To work with local breweries that care about grain as much as we do is a unique opportunity. Combining the spent grain with our flour to create a product that educates eaters about grain is perfectly in line with our values of land stewardship, supporting our community and delighting people with good food.”

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, NETZRO was focused on wholesaling upcycled ingredients. Noting the growing demand for flour from at-home bakers spurred the launch of this direct-to-consumer flour blend. Twin Cities Spent Grain Co-op Flour is sold in 24 oz bags for $12.50 and ships nationwide.

In the near future, NETZRO has plans to partner with interested entrepreneurs across the country looking to upcycle spent grains. For more information or to get a brewery involved, email sales@netzro.us.

About NETZRO:

NETZRO is a food upcycler, that’s created a new process of sustainably converting food that would otherwise be wasted, into safe upcycled ingredients for new food products. Over the past five years, NETZRO has built an ecosystem of farmers, producers, distributors, retailers, restaurants, consumers and regulators, pioneering a circular food economy. Working with large and small-scale businesses across the country, NETZRO uses proprietary technology to turn food byproducts into nutritious, versatile ingredients that are good for the planet, farms, consumers and animals. Minneapolis, Minn. | Beer drinkers of the Greater Twin Cities, say hello to your newest Northeast Minneapolis neighbor: Falling Knife Brewing Company. Opening in 2019, Falling Knife will brew adventurous and classic beers that are as distinctive in style as the people and culture that makes up this flourishing and historic neighborhood. These world-class beers will meld with the sounds of a curated jukebox, uniquely-designed taproom and the ambience of friends enjoying one another’s company.

Falling Knife Brewing Co. occupies a 7,400-square-foot space with a 20-barrel brewhouse and 149-person full-service taproom, including a dedicated pinball alley. 16 taps will showcase a wide array of beers produced exclusively on premise, and include a spectrum of styles and flavors that will appeal to a multitude of patrons .

“We didn’t realize it at the time, but this project started with listening to bands we love and drinking beer at venues around the Twin Cities.” said CEO Andy Rutledge. “That bond eventually progressed into serious conversations about starting a brewery together, which is now becoming Falling Knife Brewing Company.”

Rutledge is joined by Tom Berg and Dan Herman, both longtime veterans of the beer and service industries. Berg was a nationally decorated homebrewer and BJCP beer judge who brewed commercially at Wicked Wort and has collaborated at several other Twin Cities breweries, including Venn Brewing Company, Back Channel Brewing, Flat Earth Brewing and Day Block Brewing. Herman has nearly 20 years of hospitality experience and is acknowledged for his accomplishments at service-focused restaurants like Kincaids and Tilia.

“Time is the most valuable commodity people can give. When someone trusts us with the free time they have, we will respond with outstanding beer and a phenomenal experience,” said Herman.

The taproom will provide a sense of familiarity, but Falling Knife intends to redefine consumer’s expectations about modern taprooms. Table service will allow guests to relax and casually explore the flavors Falling Knife has to offer. On any given day, the taproom may host a game night, pinball tournaments, private parties, specialty beer releases, and friends conversing at the bar over a pint of Falling Knife’s finest.

About Falling Knife Brewing Co.
Falling Knife Brewing Company is a craft brewery in Northeast Minneapolis dedicated to providing world-class beers and service to our guests, value to our partners, and purpose to our co-workers. The brewery taproom at 783 Harding St NE serves a wide variety of beer styles from 16 taps in a unique and relaxing space.

Indeed Brewing Flavorwave IPA

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, SEPTEMBER 4TH, 2018: Indeed Brewing Company announces the release of Flavorwave IPA.

Flavorwave is the latest creation from Indeed Brewing Company’s Head Brewer, Josh Bischoff, who explains, “For the recipe of our first year round IPA, we felt it was appropriate to explore current trends in hopping techniques both in the brew kettle as well as dry hopping. We chose a handful of our favorite classic and new American hops all leaning towards a juicy and fruity profile. The end results in layers (or waves) of hop flavor and aroma while leaving the ‘old school’ signature IPA bitterness largely behind.” Brewed with Denali, Citra, Mosaic, Centennial, and El Dorado hop varietals, Flavorwave pours a bright golden hue with a subtle haze, a light body, and a crisp finish.

“Our first year-round IPA, Flavorwave, is the ultimate result of six years of research, experimentation, and customer feedback. To commit to making a year-round IPA we needed to convince ourselves that the experience while drinking the beer would not stale over time but actually compound for our customers much like Day Tripper has since we opened six years ago,” Says co-founder Tom Whisenand. “Flavorwave is not a trendy, hazy IPA but it is also not some boring version of the style. It embodies the level of professionalism we foster at Indeed, the decades of experience our brewing staff possess, the feedback we hear from our customers, and is proof that innovation does not need to whack you over the head.”

Flavorwave will be available year-round throughout all of Indeed’s markets including Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin, and will be available on draft as well as in 6-pack, 12 oz. cans. Distribution will begin on Tuesday, September 11th, 2018. Indeed’s Sales Manager, Derek Johnson, looks forward to beginning distribution of this beer, saying, “There are a lot of ‘flavor of the moment’ IPA’s out in the market today, but Flavorwave is a different animal that highlights the modern flavor profile consumers expect from today’s IPAs, but has the look and feel of a beer that has been here for years.”

There will be several draft release parties including Turtle’s Bar & Grill on September 12th from 5-10 pm, Brunson’s Pub on September 12th from 3-7 pm, and Red Cow on 50th and France on September 13th from 4-10 pm.

Stats:

Malt: Pale and Barke
Hops: Denali, Citra, Mosaic, Centennial and El Dorado
Yeast: A15 Independence

6.2% ABV
73 IBU
Availability: Year-round in 6-packs of 12 oz cans and on draft

Description:

Can you feel that? A Flavorwave is coming. The rumblings of a fresh new IPA are now a full blown quake, swelling with all the juiciest, headiest hops. Bright golden and lit with a gentle haze, Flavorwave IPA delivers with pineapple, citrus and stone fruit aromas and a rush of fruity, tropical hop flavor. It’s high time to pick up on these good vibrations.

Over 1,000 Minnesota Beer Events Now Listed

In less than 4 months, MinnesotaBreweries.com has posted over 1,000 beer events around the state of Minnesota! Without a doubt, we offer the most complete and largest calendar of beer loving events across the state of Minnesota.

Of those events, one of the most common categories are charity events. It’s awesome to see so many breweries and bars raising money for great causes in our communities. Drinking beer is great, but it’s even better when you can do it for a great reason and give back at the same time.

Beer releases and tap takeovers are common occurrences on the calendar also. We’re all down for trying new beers and the brewers across our state are constantly coming up with awesome new beers to help quench our thirst.

Beer dinners aren’t nearly as common as they may have been some years back. It seems the costs of most continue to rise. Some years ago, a beer dinner with 5 courses and 5 beer pairings could be found for $45 or less. Now it seems you rarely see one under $60 and those costing nearly $100 aren’t uncommon. It seems many spots may be pricing themselves out of the market when it comes to this combo, which is sad because it’s always an amazing opportunity to enjoy great food and beer together. Let’s hope some start seeing the benefit in keeping prices under control and offering a beer dinner everyone can afford to enjoy.

Going forward, we’ll continue to keep the calendar filled with beer-filled fun. Be sure to check back frequently, as we add at least 5-10 local Minnesota beer events to the Minnesota Beer Event calendar every single day. We’ll see you out there drinking!
