Belgium’s national holiday commemorates July 21st, 1831 on which Leopold of Saxe-Cobourg swore allegiance to the new Belgian constitution, thus becoming the nation’s first monarch. The king’s vow marked the start of the independent state of Belgium under a constitutional monarchy and parliament. We’ll celebrate Belgium’s independence day through the weekend in classic HopCat Fashion – with our favorite Belgian beer and food offerings.
