Event Details
On Monday night, June 25, the historic Waldmann Brewery & Wurstery will be open exclusively for a tournament (“bustle”) of euchre. An entry fee of $3.00 per player gives you a night of euchre, comradery, free pepper bacon popcorn, Waldmann’s great lagers (for purchase—coffee, soda and seltzer also available), and the opportunity to win the house purse, with 100% cash pay-out of the cumulative registration fees! Tournament play starts at 7:30pm and runs to 10:00pm.
Euchre is easy to learn and beginners are welcome—for those needing lessons or a quick refresher, come at 6:30pm.
Following the prize awards, a history and brewery tour will be offered to all participants.
For this inaugural event, registration will be limited to the first 60 players.
Cash pay-out: 1st place = 50%, 2nd place = 30%, 3rd place = 20%.
The night will mark a return of euchre to Waldmann, where it was most assuredly played 161 years ago when this historic German-American lager house first opened in 1857. Euchre was the most popular card game in the United States in the mid- to late 1800’s.
“When Euchre is introduced to a new player it seems easy to learn – deceptively easy. At first blush all one has to remember is the importance of the Right and Left Bowers and that three tricks are required to be taken when a bid is made – nothing to it!” (Thomas A. Gallagher author, Win at Euchre)
A separate information sheet explaining the euchre bustle format will be made available to participants, along with detailed house rules.
Register now Euchre Night at Waldmann and be a part of history in the (re-)making!
