Event Details

Brewing in Duluth and Superior began in 1859, but it wasn’t until 1869 that someone started using Lake Superior Water in the brewing process. Beginning in the 1930s, the Twin Ports’ breweries began marketing their beers by reminding drinkers they were made with chemically pure Lake Superior water. And it wasn’t just hype: local brewmasters knew that Lake Superior water is special, allowing brewers to make beer without adding chemicals to treat the water. Join us to find out why, and get a complete overview of the history of brewing at the Head of the Lakes along the way. Get your history where it is being made: Bent Paddle Brewing’s founders chose Duluth as its home so they could brew with Lake Superior water. Free and open to the public—and plenty of Bent Paddle beer on hand!
