Nixta x Surly Pop-Up

If you’ve enjoyed a taco at the Beer Hall, it’s thanks in no small part to Nixta’s wonderful tortillas. Surly began sourcing our tortillas from the Minneapolis tortilleria when we reopened, and a strong partnership and friendship formed soon thereafter.
This bonding led to the idea of brewing a beer with Nixta’s corn. We’re happy to announce that the beer is here and it is a doozy. Nixta X Surly Lager al Pastor (made in collaboration with Chef Gustavo Romero) features pineapple, lime, Nixta-malized corn, pasilla peppers, jalapeño peppers, and Sabro hops and will be tapped on Tuesday, December 28 in the Beer Hall and Surly Pizza Upstairs.
Our kitchens will also be making two special dishes using Nixta tortillas that day. In the pizza kitchen, we’ll be serving tlayudas, which consists of a large, thin, crunchy, partially fried/toasted tortilla covered with a spread of refried beans, asiento, lettuce or cabbage, radishes, tomato, and avocado, as well as cecina, chorizo, tasajo and salsa. Downstairs, we’re preparing tacos al pastor. Tacos al pastor were created in Mexico by Lebanese immigrants who introduced the region to classic shawarma: roasted lamb served on a flour tortilla or pita bread (pan árabe). This creation was originally known as tacos árabes, and used meat cooked on a vertical grill. We’re very excited to have been able to make this collaboration happen, and we can’t wait to share these new recipes and this beer with you!
