About Urban Boatbuilders:
In 1995 a small group of community leaders saw an increased lack of opportunities for youth to learn and develop through hands-on activities, and thus formed the nonprofit Urban Boatbuilders. Since that time, this lack of hands-on opportunities has increased, along with youth unemployment rates and an increased emphasis on standardized testing in schools. Urban Boatbuilders seeks to address the gap this creates for youth to gain technical, social, and emotional skills that will prepare them to pursue their academic and vocational goals.
