Biking While Black: When Equity Matters

Come to the 4th Twin Cities DRAFT meet up. Coinciding with Black Bike Week and in partnership with Slow Roll Twin Cities, DRAFT – Biking While Black: When Equity Matters is going to be a night of wonderful conversation, powerful presentations and, of course, bike friends.

This is going to be a truly unique DRAFT. It’s one that revolves around equity and biking in the Twin Cities. We’ll dive into issues like:

Manufacturing communities of color in the Twin Cities

What people of color experience while biking

Why bike lanes are feared in the black community

We will also have a very special guest presenter, Karen Donovan, granddaughter of Major Taylor, who will speak about Major Taylor’s challenges, triumphs, and lasting legacy.

Presentors:

Karen Donovan – Advocate – “Major Taylor as a Movement”

Geoff Maas – Humphrey School of Public Affairs – “Mapping Communities of Color”

Melody Hoffman – Author of Bike Lanes are White Lanes

Rashida Jenkins – Slow Roll Ride Leader – “My Way to Biking”
