Wild Mind Rose d'Orge Bottle Release

Over the past two years, we’ve released a wide variety of wild, barrel-aged, and/or mixed fermentation beers. Our latest bottle release is particularly exciting because for the first time it’s a wine….sort of.

Join us at the tasting room on Saturday, December 8, for the release of Rosé d’Orge, a beautifully pink beer/wine hybrid with a dry, tannic body and notes of Cabernet Franc and sparkling cider with a spritzy finish.

A rosé is typically named to indicate the main grape, (a rosé made using Malbec grapes would be called a Rosé of Malbec). So, it felt only fitting to name our first for foray into wine/beer creations the Rosé d’Orge — the Rosé of Barley.

The beer began with a lightly-hopped, all-barley fermentation with Sacchromyces Trois that was blended with a deep purple juice from the carbonic maceration of 800 pounds of whole Cabernet Franc grapes. The final result was conditioned on champagne yeast for achieve that spritzy rosé finish while highlighting all of the beer’s fruit flavors. To add a bit more flair and show off that beautiful pink color, we bottled this one in a clear bottle. Since there’s next to no hops, there’s no risk of skunking the beer.

Rosé d’Orge represents something we set out to do when we opened Wild Mind — create unique, adventurous, and high quality mixed fermentation beers. The beer/wine hybrid is just the latest iteration in our quest to bring you the best and most interesting beers we can.

In the coming months, you can expect several more hybrid beers, including an upcoming mead/beer combo that’s not to be missed. Each release marks a step forward as we continue to build out the Wood Cellar and as more and more of our barrel-aged beers become ready for release.

Rosé d’Orge bottles will be available on Saturday, December 8 at 12PM. Cost is $12/bottle; no limit. We’ll be open at 11:30AM for FBS 2018 members.
