Duluth based companies team up to benefit Hartley Nature Center through beer. This year, Bent Paddle Brewing Company and Loll Designs raised over $1,500 for Hartley Nature Center. The Duluth-based environmentally conscious furniture designer/manufacture Loll Designs and Bent Paddle Brewing Co. have created the beloved Lollygagger Pale Ale for the 5th year in a row. Each year, 1% of the sales are donated via 1% for the Planet to local Duluth organizations who benefit the environment.

“Lollygagger Pale Ale is one of our favorite seasonal beers to brew,” says Colin Mullen, co-founder of Bent Paddle. “This West-Coast Style Pale Ale is crisp and hoppy, perfect for laying back and enjoying the great outdoors. Brewing a beer that is not only meant to be enjoyed outdoors, but actively protects the spaces we care so much about is really exciting.”

Members of 1% for the Planet make the decision to donate 1% of sales to a sustainability-oriented nonprofit. In past years, the 1% of sales from Lollygagger Pale Ale have gone towards groups like Cyclists of Gitchee Gumee Shores (COGGS), which directly funded the building of the Duluth Traverse.

This year, Hartley Nature Center was chosen as the recipient for the shared 1% for the Planet donation. Hartley Nature Center passes the torch of environmental stewardship to the next generation through educational camps, field trips and programs. “We are dedicated to environmental education for all people, focusing on youth from the surrounding region,” notes Hartley’s Executive Director Tom O’Rourke. “We strive to get kids of all ages out into nature to connect through hands on play.”

The three Duluth-based organizations will be hosting a brief and brisk check giving ceremony outside at Hartley Nature Center on January 6th at 9am. Media, citizens and the outdoor community are welcome to attend
